Our Nonprofit Mission: A Sanctuary of Reverence, Reciprocity & Belonging

Hamakua Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization rooted in a single, steady truth:

When we reconnect with the Earth, we reconnect with ourselves.

We exist to nurture a living relationship between people, land, and spirit — a relationship grounded in reverence, belonging, and reciprocal care.

Everything we do flows from this purpose.

A Living Ecosystem for the Heart

The Sanctuary is not a retreat center, not an eco-lodge, and not a traditional nonprofit. Here we are a living ecosystem devoted to regeneration — ecological, relational, and spiritual.

This is where learning happens through presence:

 • Feeling the soil soften in your hands

 • Listening to wind move through tall grass

 • Participating in shared tending

 • Understanding the rhythms of nature as your own

We hold a belief that transformation is most real when it unfolds slowly, with humility and care.

Programs That Restore Relationship

Our nonprofit mission supports:

 • Stewardship training and volunteer residencies

 • Biochar development and carbon removal

 • Native plant restoration and reforestation

 • Animal care and habitat support

 • Community gatherings and Earth-based education

 • Seasonal workshops that reconnect people with traditional knowledge

 • O na Keiki, ke Ki, children’s program

Every donation, every act of service, every moment of tending becomes part of a larger breath — the collective work of healing land and reweaving human connection.

The Purpose Behind the Work

We are here to:

 • Restore reciprocity between humans and the living Earth

 • Offer a place where people can soften, remember, and return

 • Foster community rooted in care, not consumption

 • Teach embodied stewardship and regenerative practice

 • Cultivate belonging for those who feel called

When the land thrives, so do we. Our nonprofit mission is an offering toward a future where humans participate in the healing of the Earth — not by force, but by relationship.

If this purpose resonates with you, you are already part of the Sanctuary. If you want to dive deeper then STAY ATTUNED IN.

Love as Ecology

When we stop trying to force love and start learning how to care for it, something shifts. Love becomes less fragile. More resilient. More real.
